PET/CT Services Now Available at Riverside Healthcare Watseka Campus

State-of-the-Art Mobile Imaging System Now in Watseka

KANKAKEE, IL (June 16, 2017) - Residents in Iroquois County will now have more convenient access to advanced medical imaging. Riverside Healthcare is pleased to announce PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computerized Tomography) services are now available at Riverside Healthcare Watseka Campus, located at 1490 E. Walnut Street. The state-of-the-art mobile imaging system will be available beginning June 16, 2017.

As a leader in providing imaging services for patients requiring PET/CT scans in Bourbonnais, it was a natural transition for Riverside to expand services into Watseka.

"We are pleased to offer this life-saving imaging service at our Watseka Campus," said Dr. Ryan Meiners, Radiologist at Riverside Healthcare. "Now our patients can receive the same state-of-the-art care as provided by our main campus while making it more convenient for people living in Watseka and surrounding areas."

PET/CT is an acronym for Positron Emission Tomography and Computerized Tomography. The PET portion is a test that uses a special imaging camera and a radioactive type of sugar to produce pictures of the function and metabolism of the cells in the body. The CT portion is an X-ray that details the anatomy or structures of the organs and tissues of the body. When combined, a PET/CT can depict both technologies using a single machine. It combines a picture of function (PET) and anatomy (CT) which results in a much more detailed and diagnostic exam.

The use of PET/CT scans are primarily oncological as they help physicians diagnose, stage and treat cancer. They also provide important information about the location and size of the disease and are used to observe the success of treatment. PET/CT scans are also valuable in finding metabolic areas for biopsies. Physicians may also utilize PET/CT scans for areas other than oncology, such as neurology and cardiology.

Alliance Healthcare Radiology performs the scanning and scheduling of the PET/CT exams and has been a long-time partner with Riverside Healthcare in providing valuable and often life-saving PET/CT imaging to patients.

Each PET/CT scan requires a referral from a physician. Patients may call PET/CT Alliance Healthcare Radiology central scheduling at (866) 667-7226 with any questions regarding their scheduled exam.
